The Dating Disaster is the second book release in the Franklin U series to be written by multiple authors. It features Felix, the son of Griff from Platonic Rulebook, and Marshall, the not-so-little brother of Robbie from Frat Wars: Master of Mayhem. It begins with the two going on a blind date arranged by Marshall’s best friend.
Due to misunderstandings, the date becomes a problem and ends too early. The next morning, Felix wakes up to the shocking and frightening fact that his blind date Marshall is now his new roommate. There are many assumptions throughout the book that occur between the characters that definitely could have been avoided but made for a wonderful read.

When I first heard about the Franklin U series (a multi-author M/M college romance series set in the same location and timeline), I was beyond excited. Many of my favorite M/M romance writers contribute to this series and one of them is Saxon James with this hilarious book, Dating Disaster!
So a point for this book goes straight away for simply existing in the series!
The second point, not yet related to the story itself, is deserved because not only does this story fit perfectly into the series, but also into the intertwined universe created by Saxon and Eden Finley’s other books (the Sadenverses, like me recognized it). account today).
One of our MCs is Felix, whom we first met as the son of one of the MCs in Platonic Rulebook, an ongoing college freshman, part of Saxon’s ongoing Divorced.Men’s Club series.
Our other main character is Marshall, our beloved Robbie’s little brother from Frat Wars: Master of Mayhem, part of Saxon’s college fraternity romance series.
I love the interconnected universe and how my beloved characters appear in other books.
But let’s talk about the story… the title says it all! It all starts with a blind date dating disaster between Marshall and Felix that throws them off guard…especially now that they’re roommates too.
But we can see how a first impression can morph into something completely different when you really try to get to know the other person.
The story is told in double perspective and emphasizes how different our two heroes are. Felix is small, flirtatious and spirited. After enjoying the college experience for a few years and hanging out with as many men as possible, he’s now looking for something more. Meanwhile, Marshall is a sweet and gentle giant who is demisexual BIG KUDOS FOR THE REP and also looking for someone special to spend his chilled nights with.
They couldn’t be more different, but they’re exactly the same guy and they can’t stop thinking about each other.
The focus of the story is definitely their burgeoning relationship, which goes through some confusing but totally obvious stages, from post-disaster awkwardness, roommate politeness, friendship, and more.
Felix’s insecurity of never finding someone to love him for himself, masked by flirtation and a loud personality, and Marshall’s introverted personality combined with his demisexuality result in some awkward, funny, warm and sweet moments between the two.
The plot is full of profanity, which isn’t really my thing, but was necessary for the development of the relationship.
But! Misunderstandings… the expression that can go horribly wrong… luckily that wasn’t the case here, but Felix and Marshall’s constant drama about not talking to each other, especially about their feelings, felt a bit of a pain point. forced into history. . His complete oblivion of each other’s feelings and his constant inner monologues to convince himself that the other’s actions meant something they didn’t meant was a bit annoying at the end.
While the trope itself felt a little lacking, the sweet love story still shone through the pages. Both MCs were absolutely adorable, their search for romance was enchanting and their gentle love story was amazing. The supporting characters were just trying to get off the page and get their own stories and some of them will make the show.
Overall, the story was very nice and light-hearted. I loved reading it, I loved the universe of Franklin U that was gradually revealed. I admired the characters and their awkward falls in love. I can’t wait to read more in this series!
