The new escape story from the bestselling author of A Secret Scottish Escape and A Scottish Highland Surprise for fans of Jo Thomas, Trisha Ashley and Cathy Bramley.

I recently discovered Julie Shackman and her fabulous books. I love the way she writes such funny and good stories. The synopsis for The Cottage In The Highlands definitely appealed to me and I couldn’t wait to dive into it. So I quickly grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my Kindle, and got ready for a fabulous afternoon of reading. I really enjoyed reading The Cottage In The Highlands, but more on that later.

I loved the character of Leonie Baxter. I grew fond of her from the very beginning and actually began to think of her more as my friend than a character in a book. I hope it makes sense. She is a pretty young girl who works hard on her role in the local newspaper. Her world has been turned upside down recently and things aren’t getting any easier just yet.

I felt like jumping between the pages of the book to hug her. However, she doesn’t let that get her down, so she pulls up her big girl pants and moves on. She was capturing all that she would get in a new job and finally getting the happily ever after she so deserved. What happens? Well, for the answer to that question and much more, you’ll simply have to read the book yourself to find out, since I won’t tell you.

I started reading The Cottage In The Highlands and found I couldn’t stop. I originally picked up the book with the sole intention of reading a chapter or two, but I was so engrossed in the story and the lives of the various characters that I was still sitting reading several chapters and an hour later. I really found that I just rally couldn’t put the book down. My Kindle wasn’t exactly glued to my hand, but it might as well have been because it went everywhere with me.

I really couldn’t bear to miss a single second of the story. I loved the characters and had to keep reading to see how their specific parts of the story played out. The more I read of the book, the more I wanted to read and the faster the pages turned. This was an entertaining and ultimately moving read that certainly amused me.

The Cottage In The Highlands is extremely well written and then some, but I expect nothing less from Julie Shackman. He has a simple writing style that is more like a conversation between friends than a book. I hope it makes sense. Julie clearly cares about her characters and it shows in the very vivid and realistic way she depicts them. She makes her characters seem as real as you and me. I love the way Julie makes the reader feel part of the story and right in the middle of the action.

In short, I really enjoyed reading The Cottage In The Highlands and would definitely recommend this book to other readers.
