However, he had no luck when it came to realizing his vision of the perfect executive assistant. When his friend offers him his executive assistant for a few months, Adrian is only too happy to accept, but he didn’t expect to come face-to-face with the woman who got away. Paige is gorgeous and not so happy to see him.
But if Adrián has learned anything in the course of his career, it’s not so easy to give up. He will do anything to get Paige to be his executive assistant and maybe a little more if she has it. The only thing is that something sinister wants to haunt Paige and now more than ever she needs to protect her before it’s too late.
Paige has known the Drake brothers since she was 7 years old, since her parents’ divorce caused her and her mother to move to Florida. With her mother working all the time and her father not in her life, Paige encounters her neighbors’ children. While first meeting Adrian, Paige quickly became close with her younger brother Cade. Their friendship pushed Adrian to the limit, which was fine with her until Paige grew older and fell more and more in love with the boy she couldn’t have. Then he broke her heart and she moved on with her life.
Until he met Adrian again a decade later. He remains as protective and demanding as ever. He wants her as his management assistant, she refuses, but Adrian is known not to give up easily. Then her security is tested and she has no choice but to agree to Adrian’s terms. But the more time she spends with him, the more he finds his way back into her heart. Paige has been hurt before and won’t let Adrian hurt her again.
I loved the general idea of the story, we have two people who haven’t seen each other for a long time, brought back by fate. There’s a sexual tension between them that sizzles throughout the book. The story is told in double POV and also alternates between past and present to help us get the full experience of what each character is going through.
There’s tension in the mix too, which made the story a lot more compelling, but I wish I had explored it a lot more. It’s clear that they are meant to be together and we can see them going through ups and downs to reach their happy endings. I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series! I can’t wait to read what M. Robinson comes up with next. 🙂
This is the story of Adrian and Paige. Adrian Drake is a self-made billionaire and now that he’s made it, he has only one mission in life. He’s on a mission to protect and win back the love of his life. The woman he had to hurt twelve years ago. However, if he thinks Paige Summers will listen to something he has to say or let him tell her what to do in life, he’s in for something else.
When he broke her heart, she not only lost him that day, but also her best friend in the world, Cade, who is also Adrian’s brother. In this process, Adrian was just as hurt, if not more so, than letting her go, for whatever reasons he saw fit at the time. When a girl is seriously after a stalker, the best thing on his mind is for her to stay and work for him so he can protect her. Now they find themselves in a situation where they are together all the time and it doesn’t take long before sparks fly everywhere and there is a great temptation to fall back into who they used to be.
But after what happened the first time, can Paige trust him with her heart again? Or does he have to do the unthinkable and break his own heart and free her when it’s safe? Well, I really can’t really tell you, but I can really say that I totally loved these characters. I love that Adrian would really do anything to protect her. He is certainly an alpha male in every sense of the word. It’s often a butt, but it sure is great entertainment. It’s a real challenge for a man who’s a pit bull in business and can’t be at all like that with Paige.
She is also a challenge for him as she never falls at his feet. She’s not the girl he left broken twelve years ago. She has changed and grown and is an independent, courageous and very self-confident woman who does not want to give up the independence she has won under any circumstances. Packed with angst, drama and a stalker that will keep you reading long past your bedtime, this is a book you won’t want to miss and quite possibly my favorite of the entire Second Chance series.
