Never Rescue a Rogue by Virginia Heath, the next book in the Merriwell Sisters series, is filled with hilarious banter, swoon romance, hilarious mishaps, and twisted revelations that will leave you gasping and laughing with delight.

Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair only tolerate each other for the sake of their loved ones. Everyone thinks the two are made for each other, but Diana and Giles know that their constant sarcastic criticism stems from a shared disdain, not a hidden attraction. Diana loves the freedom of working at the newspaper too much to give it up for marriage, and Giles is happily married to her single life. But they have one thing in common: mysteries from which they cannot escape.

When Giles’s father, the surly Duke of Harpenden, unexpectedly wiggles his toes, it’s only a matter of time before someone emerges from the woods and learns the true circumstances of the birth of his only child.

When the threat of blackmail becomes real, Giles must first uncover the truth about his parentage or else he and those who depend on him will go bankrupt, and persistent bloodhound Diana is his best hope of uncovering the truth. As Giles and Diana dig deeper into their family’s past, the attraction they both claim didn’t exist becomes impossible to ignore. Soon, it’s not just the future of the Sinclair estate that’s at stake…

If you read the first book in the series, Never Fall For Your Fiancée, you’ve already met almost all of the characters in this book. In this book we could see that there was more to Giles than meets the eye, and we also came to the conclusion that there was an attraction between Giles and Diana, although they only called and talked to each other. It seems we were right on all counts and now we’re getting to know Giles and Diana a lot better.

Diana and her sisters had a very hard early life as the daughters of a despicable criminal who had no honor or morals whatsoever. They had barely gotten over it when her older sister, Minerva, met and married Hugh, the Earl of Fareham. This fortuitous event made her life so much easier, but Diana still has deep-seated trust issues and mistrusts everything and everyone, especially men.

Diana has no intention of ever getting married, preferring to make a living from a newspaper. Her brother-in-law’s best friend, Giles, is a shining example of someone she can’t trust. He’s cunning, flirtatious and never takes anything seriously, but for some reason there seems to be more to him than he’s letting the world see. Still, he is a man, so she will remain very wary and distrustful of him.

Giles Sinclair’s father, the Duke of Harpenden, hated Giles every time he breathed, and when he breathed his last he still hated Giles. He also left Giles to carry a great secret that could ruin the dukedom, Giles and anyone close to him. Giles doesn’t know where the threat will come from, until he shows up at his door.

How can he save the dukedom? Should he just confess the secret and throw the chips wherever they want? No, because that will hurt the tenants and others who depend on the dukedom for their livelihood, and they have already suffered enough under his father’s rule. The problem is that Giles is stuck on finding out what he needs to know and he doesn’t know anything, until Diana decides to help him.

As always, I loved this author’s wit and humor throughout the book. She Even she uses the word “giggle” and I love it! I have adored Diana and Giles individually and as a couple. I could see how easily oil and water mixed together. I thought the big mystery would be too easy to solve since the villain didn’t appear until more than fifty percent into the book. It’s a romance, though, not a mystery, so I think I can live with the fact that the mystery isn’t necessarily strong.

I highly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I do. The writing style is excellent, as always with this author, and the characters draw you in. I can already hear you yelling your breath at them!
