The fourth book in the Southern Wedding series, this is a great read! Funny and heartfelt, this film really conveys the feeling of a woman who is afraid of love and is forced to confront her feelings for the man who loves her desperately: her brother’s best friend. It’s a lover’s friend with a surprise pregnancy and lots of excitement and I loved it!
This book is a little different from the others in the series as we have a kind of established couple; Presley and Bennett are already head over heels in love… they just never admitted it. Presley grew up with Bennett as part of his life as he is best friends with his older brother Travis. She asked him to take her virginity when she was 18, and given her feelings at the time, he wholeheartedly agreed.
In the 12 years since, they’ve always hit it off when they’re in the same place at the same time, but Presley made it clear he has no intention of falling in love or getting married, so they both knew nothing would happen in between would you. to them. Now Bennett has returned home and things between them have improved a bit: they meet regularly, even with the occasional sleepover, but Presley is determined to keep things strictly casual. Until a positive pregnancy test changes everything.
Bennett is ready, always has been, and has respected Presley’s boundaries so far. In fact, he loves his independence even though his situation has been frustrating for him. But now that a baby is on the way, it’s time to go public and finally stop wasting time.
It’s a great setup and while there is so much history between these two that we don’t really get to witness, I felt it all right away and I absolutely love these two together. Their chemistry is wild, their passion for each other is intense, and though they never said the words, their love for one another is crystal clear. There’s a lot of teasing and flirting, and when pregnancy occurs, it’s even better. I love surprise baby stories and the way Bennett is prepared to take on whatever Presley throws at him is amazing!
As excited as I was to read this book, I was also nervous. Knowing Presley’s take on love and relationships, he could predict the drama to come, and oh, it hurt! I was so mad at her at first – she has a wonderful man who is in love with her and is totally devoted to her, but she keeps pushing him away! That kind of behavior can kill a book for me, but I really love how Natasha Madison handled this story.
Presley’s whole world is changing and he has a lot to deal with, and that includes finally looking at his life and figuring out what he really wants. It’s an emotional ride for her, and despite my initial anger at her, I really developed feelings for her. He’s very scared and his moment of clarity in realizing that and what he may be missing is very, very good. Their union may be difficult to pull off, but it’s quite epic. It was heartwarming and breathtaking, it was everything I could have hoped for and it had the biggest, cheesiest smile on my face.
Meanwhile, Presley’s sisters are there for her. We see all the characters from the previous books that I loved and they all kept making me laugh. Never be shy, they’re there for both Presley and Bennett, and while they’re supportive of their sister, they still manage to say what we’re all thinking.
I loved this book. Like the previous books in the series, it’s funny, sexy, and fun, but it’s also emotional, and I loved the emotion in this one.
It’s a beautiful love story that made me laugh and cry with an epilogue that made me laugh and a hint of things to come and I’m so looking forward to the next book in the series.
