Every four years, the criminal underworld gets involved in a game. The game. The challenges range from impossible to deadly to downright crazy. Things only a madman would do.
I won the game 5 times. This time it will be no different.
I’m at the top of my game now, the best thief in the world. There’s nothing you can’t steal, and this time the game is all about stealth, cunning, and sleight of hand. Starting with an iconic painting of poppies.
It’s a painting that disappeared on the black market decades ago, but I know where to find it. The only person standing in my way is her.
Nothing will stop me from winning the game, not even the energetic and witty brunette who lures me into her painting studio with the most irresistible lures.
I have no way to fail in The Game. It is my legacy.
HEIST is book 1 of 3 in the Valenshek Legacy series. This M/F romance is set in the world of Shadow Grove, but can be read independently of the other Shadow Grove books. The cameos of characters from other series are minor and inconsequential.

Heist was just amazing. The characters were fantastic and the story was great. I loved!
Tris is an absolute delight of an FMC! She was fierce and fiery, but she had an excellent head on her shoulders. She was pretty adamant, except when it came to John, of course. And oh, John! He was arrogant, smug, and a bit of an alpha hole. But to be honest, he deserved it all! I mean, he is Hermes after all! These two were great on their own, but together they were really great! All jokes! Some of the most entertaining characters I’ve ever read! Hank and Nelson were also exceptional! I need more of this!
Heist not only has phenomenal characters, but the story was amazing. I loved all the intrigue and deception. The dual point of view was also a great addition. Knowing what John’s endgame is, watching him fight. And I don’t want to spoil anything, but the ending was great! I can’t wait to see what happens next. I have a feeling he’s going to throw me into a fit of laughter.
Heist is perhaps my favorite Tate James book. Everything was just the best!
Book 1 of 3 books in Valenshek’s new series and ends on a cliffhanger (duh, it’s Tate James). This book is set in the world of Shadow Grove and while it would be beneficial to read the series in Tate’s recommended order, it is not required.
John Smith (because that’s his real name) is one of the world’s greatest thieves, but only a select number of people know it. He has been the winner of The Game for the last 4 years. A game where the best thieves compete to steal high-value items. John is in the final round of The Game and knows exactly where to find his final item. However, the only person he plans to use to get there is something…or well, someone he never sees coming.
Tris is a technical assistant at the local art school and also restores artwork for a powerful mob boss. John steps into his life and won’t go away. He’s basically a stalker…and how does he keep getting into his house? As her feelings for him evolve beyond a professional boundary…can she trust him? Why does she feel like he is hiding something from her…?
As always, Tate brings everything. This book kept me on my toes and I couldn’t put it down. I loved Tris’s cheekiness and I loved the banter between her and John. They both made me laugh out loud several times. This was also probably one of the easiest Tate books I’ve ever read. I tend to enjoy the darker book of hers, but I did enjoy this one. This was a great start to the series and it just wouldn’t be a true Tate James book without the suspense. I can’t wait for the next one!
Heist is book 1 of the Valenshek Legacy series. Although set in a world shared with his other series, it can be read before the others. You’ll notice a few characters from the other books are mentioned, but that doesn’t change this one.
Tate James is such a versatile writer. I’m used to his sharp books having multiple partners. This is just an MF and it was AWESOME. The seasoning was so good and the banter between the main characters…John and Tris were absolutely hilarious! I found this book so different from his others. The mob connections are still there, but it was a thief… a very good thief who got involved in a game.
The twists and turns in this book had me hooked and I needed an answer on how it would end. Surprisingly, I even had tears in my eyes at the end. Let me tell you that this ending really surprised me and I wasn’t expecting it. I really loved this book and will be first in line to read book 2. Get this book if you love heartbreaking relationships with hilarious banter, a found family spirit, a surprise ending, and an amazing story all the way around.
This story blew my mind. I’ve always been so curious about Hermes in all the other Shadow Grove stories and I’m so glad TJ brought us here! He was so addictive, sexy and perfectly paced! The writing was excellent as always and the characters made me wish this wasn’t over.
Heist is book 1 of 3 in this series and it was an absolute blast. I read it as slow as I could because I can’t wait for the second book. John (Hermes) is a giant of a sexy man and also the world’s greatest thief. Tristian is an art student who is hot for the teacher. The worlds of him collide with the game and a priceless work of art. He believes that he is using them… but he waits until the end.
I love that there is an age gap along with a student/teacher romance. These two were so well done by Tate that I can’t wait to see her do more. I recommend this 1000x. It’s not the filmiest, but the sharpness is perfectly on point. It’s not dark, but it has a splash. MK will always be my favorite of hers, but this one definitely takes second place. I absolutely can’t wait for Forgery! You already know that Tate is Queen Cliffy!
