Fast, fun, warm and full of excitement! I immediately felt sorry for Jules. His family dynamic was understandable and when Mae walked into his life and started wearing his clothes and fell in love with Sebastian, I locked myself in.
who is mom That was the driving force of the novel and turned the pages. devil worship? worship? I had to find out. I stayed up past my bedtime to continue reading.
The level of detail was amazing (the rituals and the worship) and the fact that it’s based on a true story gives me goosebumps as I write this. Suzanne, Jules’ mother, handles the plot very well. And the more Suzanne reveals about Mae, the more her own family is in danger.
A killer debut novel that got me so excited to read the author’s next work!
Devil In Ohio book was interesting.
When I went into this, I didn’t expect it to be as unsettling as it was. Devil in Ohio contains evidence of intense physical abuse and some sexual abuse. So if you are sensitive to any of these issues, this may not be the best book for you.
But I have to say I really enjoyed reading it. The prologue definitely pulled me into the plot and made me want to learn more about what’s going on. Because, as always, I had forgotten what this book was about before I picked it up yesterday.
The story was read fairly quickly. I read this in three sittings (within a day and a half). I have to say I was a little bored with the more contemporary high school aspects of this book. Being one of those people who are more attracted to horror/fantasy worlds, this is something I look forward to. The entire book seemed to fit well between the drastically different worlds of Julie and Mae.
But I have to say that the mother in this book is an annoying character. The plot twist with her towards the end didn’t come as a big surprise to me. If you’re someone who easily notices plot clues, you might not be too surprised either.
Come on. She was an interesting psychological figure. There was a big leap between the beginning and the end of this book. Again, the unfolding drama was a little revealing and also a little surprising. It’s like you know how to act, but that’s definitely not how you want him to be. The horror part of his character was also very well written. This book isn’t “horror” like the horror of not reading this in the dark, but rather the haunting horror. If you love cult books or are a fan of American Horror Story, I highly recommend this book!
My only flaw with this book was the use of contemporary forms of the story with the high school drama. There were those typical YA moments that made the story feel a bit boring at certain points. But other than that, this book was incredibly uplifting with a new approach to friendship.
