The woman’s body was found on a bench in a playground in New York City at dawn. She was clean, her hair neatly coiffed, her make-up carefully applied. But other things were very wrong like the clearly new tattoo and piercings.

The clothes, decades outdated. The fatal wound hidden under a band around his neck. And the note: Bad Mama, written with colored pencils as if she were a child.

Eve Dallas contacts the department’s lead profiler, who confirms what Eve seems obvious: you are dealing with a killer whose childhood was associated with some form of trauma, a situation Eve is all too familiar with. However, evidence suggests that the perpetrator was in his 60s, and there are no records of ancient crimes with a similar modus operandi. What was the trigger that seemingly reopened such an old wound and sent someone over the edge?

When Eve discovers that other young women who physically resemble the first victim have disappeared, the clock starts ticking faster. But to solve this case, he must find his way to a hidden place of dim light and concrete, to the distant past and to the cold depths of a shattered mind.

Another strong show from the author as she makes this series sound so strong I have no idea how 60+ stories and none in between. This begins, as usual, with a dead body lying in a playground with a sign on its chest that says Bad Mommy.

So begins another case for Eve and Peabody, there’s not much to do, whoever did this is smart, although they have some clues, there’s not much to do and worst of all Eve can’t help but to feel that there is more to come. . ……….. Now this book (as well as the last couple of books) focuses solely on the case, which means we won’t get much from Roarke again.

I really miss not having a strong role in these books, Roarke isn’t meant to be a supporting character (which he seems to be becoming), but that’s a personal complaint. The killer is Wiley, the story is heartbreaking and brings back some bad memories for Eve. But as always, he has the plucky Peabody at his side, a character who never fails to delight.

Abandoned In Death book didn’t make it onto my Kindle until midnight and I finished it at 8:30pm the same day, I couldn’t put it down although I keep promising myself I’ll read slowly so it lasts. September roll and the next installment.
